My friends who live on the east coast hate me during this time of the year and they have really hated me during this past month as the constant snowstorms kept pounding them. They hated me because I would call up and nonchalantly ask “so how’s the weather?” The usual reply that I got cannot be politely repeated here.
And while as I write this it is raining and my kayak class that I was supposed to teach got cancelled (karma is a bitch), last Saturday was about as perfect as a day one could ask for paddling in California. Clear crisp weather, snow on the mountains, sailboats in the background and clear blue water greeted me and some fellow UCLA Aquatic Center kayakers including the ever wonderful Ms. Diane D (who traveled with me to Africa and is the one leaning in to the only other male on this paddle) ventured out to play in Santa Monica Bay. We practiced strokes, said hello to the pelicans and sea lions and enjoyed how wonderful it is to live in Southern California.
