Sherri and Karen fly from the Serengeti back to Mt. Kilimanjaro Airport. Sadly the dream vacation is over 🙁
Breakfast, preparing for 9:45 a.m. flight from Kogatende to begin long flights home. Pilot Mike bounds in for breakfast at Sayari and will be our pilot. Happy guy! Sad goodbye to our friends at Sayari. Sweet Albert takes us on a mini game drive (very mini!) as he drives us back to Kogatende airport. A few stops and we land at Arusha Airport, change planes for flight to Kilimanjaro Airport – Long layover, but we run into our old friends Sharon and Richard Gabriel and spend a nice time chatting and getting to know each other better. Richard has a brother, Eddie, in Sherman Oaks and we’ll be getting in touch with him. Sharon also has a friend on the west-side that she says she would like to introduce us to.
The Gabriels say goodbye after an hour or two on their way to South Africa (they have already shipped 3 large bags ahead) and then will be going on to their home in Israel where they live for 5 weeks every year. We do a little more shopping at the airport. On line for our flight to Amsterdam at 8:45 pm, 1 stop in Dar Esalam, we meet and talk with a young lady, pediatric oncologist now living and practicing in Mwanza. Amsterdam to Los Angeles – thank goodness for ‘No Jet Lag’ pills – really work – land at LAX, through customs in 1 hour, everything automated. Pleasure – Fred picks us up – Home – the dream vacation is over!
