During my stay in Cape Town I took a beautiful ride down the coast to the Cape of Good Hope. I really enjoyed standing there at this historic point (though I would have loved to have been in a kayak) where many believe is the southern tip of Africa. This point is where the currents to two oceans – the warm waters of the Indian Ocean and the cold waters of the Atlantic meet.

It is also the home of the legendary home of The Flying Dutchman. As legend tells it this ship is crewed by tormented and damned ghosts of sailors. It is forever doomed to sail through the adjacent waters without ever succeeding in rounding the point.

I looked for the ship but did not see it. But I did feel a sense of standing at the edge of Africa and wondering what was out there. Who knows perhaps if I had stayed a little longer I might have seen The Flying Dutchman!
