Sherry & Karen had an incredible gorillas experience. Here is more of their story. Now it is off to see the Golden Monkeys but more importantly they get to know the people of Rwanda even better.
Enjoy!
Orientation at Volcanoes National Park. This time we have a female tracker and female guide, Bernice, who is so pretty. Day is warm and sunny as we hike back up through the fields to the Golden Monkeys. A short hike and the monkeys are everywhere – moving quickly – in the trees and on the ground. Beautiful and golden.
Staff meets us again at front of our lodge. Dirty hiking boots taken away again – magic and clean upon return! Weather gone bad! Rain, thunder, wind – a good afternoon to enjoy our beautiful surroundings
Judith, lodge mgr, joins us for lunch, as out of the kitchen steps Bachu Abdallah, head chef. He shares his amazing story of leaving his village at 14 and finding his way. He is a masterful chef with a beautiful smile – and, everyone we have met has beautiful teeth! We’re on a mission to find a fat African with rotten teeth! Bachu educates us in the fine foods he will prepare especially for us at dinner.
First, he gives us a warm bowl of ubunyobwa, local grown nuts, which we enjoy with our banana wine. Then he teaches us ‘ smiling face, smiling hands.’ We eat green peas & pumpkin, plantains & beans, white yams, Nile Perch Fish imported from Uganda, dodo (like spinach).
Wish we had bigger stomachs to fill up – food is delicious, fresh, healthy and prepared with love
